"All in all, we've created a great mix."
One person who has noticed the change is Prashil
Singh -- a member of the strategy and commercial
development team at Wodonga TAFE.
Mr Singh started attending YBE events two years
ago to promote his company's services for young
entrepreneurs. He has not only been able to
connect some of his clients with members of the
YBE community but also started to gain more out
of the events for himself.
"There's certainly been a positive change in the
area of information exchange," he said.
"What they've done with the recent social
media workshops and even getting some of the
speakers to get up and share their own story is
to facilitate a level of sharing. People are taking
something from those lessons and discussions
and they're taking it back to the workplace."
Mr Singh said businesses were also starting
to see how the group was benefiting the local
economy and employment market.
"It's such an important space for those people
who are moving in and out of the area," he said.
"When people move to Albury-Wodonga from
the big cities I think it can seem like a small
town for them and they need ways to reconnect
with it in a social sense.
"As an employer, if you've got staff under
the age of 30 or 40 then you should be
encouraging them to participate -- as a form of
retention at the very least."
Flight Centre assistant manager Katrina
Pauljevic is a living example of this theory.
She joined the group two years ago after
moving back home from overseas and has
since formed an entirely new social circle -- the
majority of whom she met through YBE.
"I wanted to put the feelers out there and find
some like-minded people with the idea that it
might help me more with my career over time
and it's been great," she said.
"I really enjoyed the wine tasting night because I
was in such awe of everything (wine consultant)
Alex Berry knew, not only about wine but in
sales as well.
"I also really loved the guest speaker (business
owner Natasha Callewaert) from Quest
Wodonga. I felt completely in tune with her
perspective and could really relate to her
experiences of travel and sales.
"The social media workshop was really
interesting too and I'm really excited about the
negotiation workshop coming up.
"That's the thing. YBE isn't just a bit of fun or
a bit of networking, you keep getting so much
out of it."
