THE advantages of belonging to a Chamber
of Commerce are manifold.
Locally, Chambers of Commerce – Albury
Northside and Wodonga – operate
independently but work closely on cross-
border activities and issues as they arise.
The Chambers comprise more than 600
members and are financially supported by
Albury City Council, the City of Wodonga,
corporate sponsors, project partners, and
the fees paid by members.
The Chambers ensure that members are
provided with up-to-date information
about business developments and issues and
represent members in voicing their opinions
to levels of government and especially local
government. They also nurture alliances
between businesses, act as an advocate
for the business community and provide
advertising and marketing opportunities.
However, the primary benefit of
membership is the opportunity it provides
for networking which is acknowledged as
an ideal way to build a business. Several
studies have shown that more than 85 per
cent of business deals occur as a result of
networking relationships. The Chambers
also provide a range of direct services which
assist members to grow their business.
The Chambers, in conjunction with several
partners, conduct a ‘Business After Hours’
program which is a free, members and
guests function that is held at a different
business venue each month. They also host
business breakfasts and luncheons where
business owners have access to professional
and relevant guest speakers.
Another highlight is the Chamber Business
Awards which is a cross-border initiative
that provides an annual opportunity to
showcase the talent, growth and systems of
