THE Victorian Coalition Government intends to make life easier
for businesses following an inquiry into the state's regulatory
"Red tape is estimated to cost the state's economy billions of
dollars a year," said Member for Benambra, Bill Tilley. "The
government is committed to cutting the imposts by 25 per cent
"The red tape reduction taskforce will support a stripped-down
regulatory approach flowing from the Competition and Efficiency
Commission's inquiry into Victoria's Regulatory Framework that
was released in March."
Mr Tilley also said that the government is committed to
supporting existing businesses and generating opportunity for
new businesses in his electorate.
"Benambra is a diverse business area offering various opportunities
to both business operators and consumers," he said. "When
business flourishes, it creates jobs.
"Small businesses are now able to access Energy Saver Incentives
which makes energy efficiency more affordable. Eligible activities
include water heating, space heating and cooling, energy efficient
lighting, refrigerators and freezers.
"We are also committed to ensuring business and retailers can
make the most of the busiest periods in the tourism calendar," he
added. "Legislation has been implemented to enable businesses
to trade on Easter Sunday and The Public Holidays Amendment
Act 2011 now allows non-metropolitan Councils to have one full
day or have two half-day public holidays to recognise events of
local significance, in lieu of Melbourne Cup Day."
The government has also allocated $3.5 million over four years to
enable Victorian farmers to have greater access to debt mediation
"The funding will encourage financial institutions to undertake
a mediation process with farmers before initiating debt recovery
proceedings," Mr Tilley explained.
