MEMBER for Albury Greg Aplin is confident several industry
taskforces will have a positive effect on the local economy.
"Since winning government in March 2011 we have committed
over $88 million to projects in the Albury electorate," he said.
"That's a great 12 months.
"Clearly this amount of money provides welcome stimulus
to the local economy, creating jobs, fresh infrastructure and
simply washing cashflow through the small businesses of our
towns and cities - business lifeblood.
"The creation of an industrial rail hub at Ettamogah required
new roadworks, for which we provided $1.35 million.
A further $1.7 million is going to upgrade Coppabella Road
to improve timber transport.
"Looking to the future, we have established industry taskforces
to stimulate growth in the digital economy, professional
services, manufacturing, visitor economy and more.
"I arranged for the new NSW Small Business Commissioner,
Jasmin King, to get down to Albury quickly after her
appointment to see what's really happening here. Her job is
to stand up for the rights of NSW's 650,000 small businesses.
"The new Cross Border Commissioner, Steve Toms, also
recently visited the area for a series of meetings with
community and business leaders to make progress on the
financial and social barriers that frustrate Border residents
"On a personal note, I am pleased to have had a hand in
designing the policy that makes it compulsory for the NSW
Government to pay its bills in 30 days to small business, with
interest applying for late payment.
"On a grander scale we have started work on turning around the
state's infrastructure deficit and unsustainable financial position
by establishing Infrastructure NSW to prioritise major projects
"Now for our second year ..."
