EVEN if your business is successful it is
important not to sit on your laurels but
to continue to improve and grow, says
Gardens Chemmart Pharmacy owner
She has owned the pharmacy for five years
and employs seven staff. The business
provides prescriptions and advice on
medical products as well as a range of
health services including diabetes and
blood pressure testing, cholesterol checks
and sleep apnea testing.
Ms Brndusic attributes the success of the
pharmacy to regular review of monthly figures
and an annual SWOT style analysis of the
performance of the business over the year.
"Our business development plan is reviewed
on a yearly basis and focuses on our strengths
and weaknesses," she said. "We look at how
to drive those strengths and change any
weaknesses into strengths."
She sets a range of key performance indicators
for herself, her pharmacy assistants, the
pharmacist and the sleep apnea co-coordinator.
She said regular review of reports produced
from the point of sales software give her a clear
view of how the business is performing.
"I can look at a range of areas from sales to
how many scripts we are selling and how
many customers are coming into the store and
compare them to data from previous periods,"
Ms Brndusic said.
She also benchmarks against the leading
state and national Chemmart outlets both
monthly and quarterly and can review these
levels and see where others are placed.
Gardens Chemmart Pharmacy strives to
win the Pharmacy of the Year title and has
been a finalist for the past five years. Ms
Brndusic is hoping that this year is her year
and will find out in late October when she
attends the event in Singapore.
"Fingers are crossed for this year but it is
all about constant improvement," she said.
"It is never about sitting on your laurels
and thinking I'm doing well and my store is
growing. It's about how can I make it better
again and again and again."
