APASSION for the hairdressing
industry spanning almost 30
years has seen Rachel Burns
graduate from an apprenticeship
in London to operating her own
award-winning salon in Albury and
teaching the next generation of hair stylists.
Ms Burns has put her heart and soul into
her business, Harrington Hair, which was
recognised nationally when it won the
Australian Salon Business of the Year 2014.
"It was a phenomenal experience and it means
so much to us to be recognised by our peers
in the industry and rewarded for all the hard
work and dedication put in by every staff
member," she said.

Ms Burns grew up in south-east London and
started work at Stewart Eichmann Hair Design
in her local town of Upminster on a Saturday
when she was 12. It was the strict professional
salon procedures and an uncompromising
passion for training and cutting techniques
that instilled in her the importance of
education, service and attention to detail in all
areas of the business.
At the age of 18 she became a qualified
hairdresser and furthered her education in top
London training academies while expanding
her skills as a senior stylist.
Ms Burns became the style director at Alan
Pauls Hair Design in Romford at age 20
where she also took on the responsibilities of
educating first year apprentices which awoke a
lifelong interest in training and mentoring.
In order to develop her communication and
organisational skills further she worked as
an administrator at a chartered loss adjusters
company in Mayfair, London. She has also
completed personal development courses
on people management skills and teaching
In 1997 she came to Australia and met her
future husband Roger. The pair returned to
England and travelled throughout Europe
before coming back to Australia in late 1999.
