Not the biggest
but aiming to be the best
THEY aren't resting on their laurels at
The award-winning Albury firm is celebrating
the first anniversary of its move to new
premises and is about to embark on another
two major construction projects.
In 2002 Michelle and Mud Clarke purchased
the established Macfab Engineering business
(originally fabricating ute trays) and have
built it into a multi-million dollar company
with a staff of 65 and focusing on major
infrastructure projects throughout Australia.
They have worked with large companies such
as Abigroup, Leighton Contractors, John
Holland, Thiess and provided quality checks
and environmental accountability for Roads
and Maritime. Macfab has worked on projects
such as the Woolgoolga Bypass, the M5
upgrade, Gerringong upgrade, Balaclava and
North Melbourne railway station upgrades.
The company is RMS Qualified, with a
preferred contract for three years, which has
just been renewed.
The name Macfab is now known in city and
regional areas for both quality small and large
jobs. They tender for many new projects and
enjoy repeat business from satisfied customers.
"We never wanted to be the biggest, just the
best at what we do," Mrs Clarke said.
"If we miss out on a job, we follow up for
feedback. We are open to learning and
improving our business, in pricing, in margins,
so that we can be more competitive."
Mrs Clarke said that they source the best
tradespeople, have high standards for their
staff and hand pick each and every one.
Macfab engenders a good work ethic and
they make special efforts to appreciate their
staff. Recently, one member celebrated 10
years with the company and the company
marked the event with a special celebration.
A free BBQ is held regularly and bonuses
are awarded to staff for achievements such
as no sick leave and being on time for work.
Macfab also holds regular safety seminars to
ensure safety is a must within the workshop
and office areas.
Macfab's new workshop is three times bigger
than the old premises. The company is also
updating its website and promoting the
business through regional and city steel
In the future, Macfab will be working on two
large new projects- the Nambucca Heads
highway upgrade and with HansenYuncken
on the new Cancer Centre at Albury Base
Macfab is known for the quality of work for both small and large projects.
